Which affordable travel destinations are there in November?
Travelling affordably in November works best when you use two levers: the weeks without school holidays and a short distance. This guide does not quote fixed prices, because flight and hotel prices change daily and Adtouro has not checked them with its own price comparison. What can be verified are dates and distances.
The 2026 off-season window
According to the holiday calendar of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK), Bavaria's autumn holidays 2026 run last, from 2 to 6 November; the first Christmas holidays begin on 21 December in Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt and Schleswig-Holstein. In between lie a good six weeks in which no federal state has school holidays. Whether an offer actually becomes cheaper as a result only shows in a comparison on the booking day — but a date in this window is the best starting point.[1]

Distance as a cost factor
A shorter route saves travel time; whether it is also cheaper only a price comparison will show. The overview below gives the distance as the crow flies from Frankfurt am Main, calculated by Adtouro as the great-circle distance between the airports. The actual flight route is somewhat longer, and the figures shift when departing from other airports.
| Destination | Distance from Frankfurt as the crow flies (rounded) |
|---|---|
| Malta | 1,650 km |
| Málaga | 1,820 km |
| Heraklion (Crete) | 2,110 km |
| Antalya | 2,300 km |
| Larnaka (Cyprus) | 2,640 km |
| Funchal (Madeira) | 2,840 km |
| Gran Canaria | 3,180 km |
| Tenerife South | 3,240 km |
| Hurghada | 3,320 km |
| Sal (Cape Verde) | 4,650 km |
| Dubai | 4,840 km |
| Phuket | 9,300 km |
What stands out is that Hurghada is barely farther away than the Canary Islands. Anyone who wants to fly affordably and over a short distance in November will find the shortest routes to Malta, Málaga and Crete — but should expect cooler evenings and more rainy days there than further south.
Which long-haul trips are recommended in November 2026?
The long-haul destinations recommended in November 2026 are those currently in a dry phase — and that applies most clearly to the Red Sea and the Gulf region. This assessment is based on long-term averages published by the national weather services through the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as well as on measurements by the German Weather Service (DWD) for November 2025.
- Hurghada (Egypt): The Egyptian weather authority reports November averages of 27.0 °C during the day, 17.0 °C at night and 0.2 rainy days (1981 to 2010).[2] In November 2025, the DWD measured an average daytime high of 29.0 °C without a single day with at least 1 mm of rain.[3]
- Dubai (United Arab Emirates): The UAE's national weather centre gives 30.5 °C during the day and 0.3 rainy days for November.[4] For Abu Dhabi, the DWD reported an average daytime high of 31.2 °C and 262 hours of sunshine in November 2025.[5]
- Sal (Cape Verde): The long-term average is 27.3 °C during the day and one rainy day.[6] November 2025 was an exception there: the DWD recorded 125 mm of precipitation, more than eight times the usual amount.[3]
- Thailand (Phuket): The Thai weather service reports 31.3 °C during the day for Phuket in November, but also 173.7 mm of rain across 16.1 days.[7] If you are planning Thailand in November, you should expect showers.
For Egypt, the following applies: German citizens need a visa. According to the German Federal Foreign Office, the visa on arrival costs 30 US dollars; alternatively, it can be applied for in advance as an eVisa. A partial travel warning is in place for the north of the Sinai Peninsula (as of 21 October 2026).[8] Re-read the travel and safety advice shortly before departure — it changes. You can find general information on visas in our section Entry and Visas, and further destinations under Long-haul trips.
Where is it warm in November?
In November, reliably warm in the sense of more than 22 °C during the day means, in Europe, only the Canary Islands — with some caveats, Madeira, Cyprus and Crete. The table places two kinds of data side by side: the long-term average from each country's national weather service and the actually measured November 2025 according to the DWD.
| Destination | Daytime high, long-term average | Rainy days, long-term average | November 2025: avg. daytime high / days at 1 mm or more |
|---|---|---|---|
| [9]Tenerife (Santa Cruz) | 24.1 °C | 8.8 | [3]25.0 °C / 6 |
| [10]Gran Canaria (Las Palmas) | 24.2 °C | 6.4 | [3]25.0 °C / 3 |
| [11]Madeira (Funchal) | 22.0 °C | 11.0 | [3]23.7 °C / 7 |
| [12]Cyprus (Nicosia; Larnaca 2025) | 22.6 °C | 4.5 | [5]26.5 °C / 2 |
| Crete (Heraklion) | no WMO values | – | [13]23.0 °C / 3 |
| [14]Antalya | 21.2 °C | 7.6 | [5]24.6 °C / 7 |
| [15]Rhodes | 20.1 °C | 9.5 | – |
| [16]Malta (Luqa) | 20.1 °C | 10.6 | [13]21.2 °C / 7 |
| [17]Málaga | 20.1 °C | 7.8 | [13]21.1 °C / 5 |
The columns are not directly comparable. The averages come from different periods — for example, 1981 to 2010 for the Spanish AEMET stations and 1961 to 1990 for Funchal and Malta. In addition, every weather service counts rainy days using its own threshold; the DWD counts days with 1 mm of precipitation or more. November 2025 was also warmer than usual in many places: for Larnaca, the DWD reports 2.8 degrees above the 1991 to 2020 average.[5]

None of these sources include water temperatures, which is why this guide does not list them. If you want to swim, check them separately for your chosen destination. More European destinations are collected in the Travel Destinations Europe section.
Where is it warm in Europe in April?
In April, the warmest places in Europe are the same as in November, only with fewer rainy days and slightly lower highs on the Atlantic islands. This section serves as a comparison for anyone who can still shift their trip; it does not replace a dedicated spring guide.
According to the long-term averages, the April daytime high is 24.3 °C in Nicosia, 22.7 °C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 22.6 °C in Las Palmas.[9][10] Málaga reaches 21.4 °C with 6.8 rainy days, Malta 19.1 °C with 6.4 rainy days.[17][16] Funchal, at 19.6 °C, is cooler than in November.[11]
Where is it warm in Europe in May?
In May, the eastern and southern Mediterranean becomes warmer than the Canary Islands, and the number of rainy days drops noticeably almost everywhere. On long-term average, Nicosia reaches 29.6 °C during the day, Antalya 25.4 °C and Málaga 24.3 °C.[12][14][17] Rhodes sits at 24.2 °C with 4.6 rainy days, Malta at 23.3 °C with 2.8 rainy days.[16][15]
The Canary Islands remain steady: in May, Santa Cruz de Tenerife reaches 24.1 °C, the same value as in November, and Las Palmas 23.6 °C with 1.3 rainy days.[10] If in November you consider only the Canary Islands warm enough, in May you have considerably more choice.
Best travel destinations in November
The best destinations in November depend on the purpose of your trip; there is no universal ranking. Adtouro therefore sorts the destinations by disclosed criteria: daytime high and rainy days from the data above, distance from the distance-as-the-crow-flies table.
- Swimming and sun: the Canary Islands in Europe, or Hurghada and Dubai if you are prepared to travel further. Only there were both the average and November 2025 above 24 °C.
- Hiking and nature: Madeira and the Canary Islands. Madeira averages 22.0 °C in the long term, but also brings eleven rainy days; rain gear belongs in your luggage.
- Culture with mild temperatures: Cyprus, Crete and Malta. The days are pleasant, the evenings cooler, and the journey is shorter.
- Sunny city trips: Málaga, Athens and Valletta. In November 2025, the DWD counted 197 sunshine hours in Málaga, 196 in Athens and 184 in Luqa on Malta.[13] Lisbon recorded eleven rainy days in the same month and is better suited to weatherproof travellers.
Who a destination suits less is just as important. If you expect beach weather, you may be disappointed in Málaga, Malta or Antalya in November. If you want short journeys, plan far-flung destinations like Dubai or Phuket only for longer stays. More ideas for short trips can be found in the City Trips section.
Warm travel destinations in November
In Europe, warm destinations in November are found above all on islands: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Madeira, Cyprus and Crete. Whether one of them suits you is best decided in three steps.
- First set your travel dates, ideally within the off-season window from the first section.
- Then compare the daytime high and rainy days from the tables above for two or three destinations. A single November can turn out much warmer than the average, as in 2025, or much wetter, as on Sal.
- Finally, for the remaining destinations, get flight and accommodation prices on the same day, and for long-haul trips factor in visa fees and the longer travel time.
For your wardrobe, our section on travel clothing helps: — even in the Canary Islands, temperatures in November drop to around 18 °C at night on average. For general guidance on choosing your travel month, the travel time section is a good starting point. Check your travel dates against the climate table and your budget before you book.
